Colette and her mother

The Story

My mother was known for her tasteful interior design style. Our home was always stylishly decorated with a mix of traditional and eclectic pieces and candles were always burning.

In the 60's when other moms were at the country club playing bridge, my mom was taking my sisters and I to the nearby, artsy Harper Court shopping area in Chicago's historic Hyde Park neighborhood.

Even though she had traditional taste, her favorite spot was the hippie-chic candle shop, there she could find the latest candles and accessories to decorate our home with panache. Now, as I carefully package my candles by hand, I imagine carrying on my mom's legacy of good taste.
